Biography
British theatrical actress with a formidable manner. Routledge won a Tony Award in June 1968 for "Darling of the Day" on the New York stage. She began her career as an assistant stage manager at the Liverpool Playhouse. Her credits include a few of Alan Bennett's plays and she was the hilarious straight-talking overnight minor celebrity, Kitty, in Victoria Wood's TV show.
Routledge has a love of words and diction and was not only a stage regular but a favorite on the award-winning TV series "Keeping up Appearances," 10/29/1990 to 1995. She successfully portrayed a local private investigator in "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates."
