Flemish novelist and poet. With Menno ter Braak and E. du Perron Roelants was one of the founders of the influential literary magazine Forum.

During his life he had various jobs ranging from teacher, official, journalist and curator of the state domain Gaasbeek.

He was co-founder of several magazines including, it Fonteintje (with Richard Minne ) Forum and the New Flemish Magazine.

He was also editor of Elsevier's Weekly.

He was awarded several prizes including the triennial State Prize for Flemish narrative prose in 1930, and the Prize of the Flemish Community for Poetry in 1950.

He died 25 April 1966.
