Biography
American anencephalic baby, the first in the U.S. to be kept alive for the purpose of preserving its organs for donation, a procedure attacked by ethicists on moral grounds. He was declared brain-dead on 2/17/1988 at approximately 9:00 PM PST, but remained on a respirator so that the organs could continue to receive oxygen until being harvested.
