Biography

French physician and surgeon, a specialist in the digestive system. An intern, 1942-47, Chief of clinic, 1947, he was an Assistant 1948-54 and Chief of the surgical service at the La Croix St Simon hospital 1955-84. Rene was president of the national committee for medical evaluation from 1987. He was elected President of the national council of the Order of Doctors on 7/02/1987, working ceaselessly to see that ethics be incorporated into a law so that France would become the first country to have laws to address the recent advancements in biology and medicine. Rene's interests included palliative care.

He married on 8/28/1942; five children. He died on 4/16/1996.
