American politician, the Republican member of the Illinois State Senate from 1993 to 2007. While State Senator he was a member of a group of conservative state senators elected in 1992 who often challenged the leadership of the Illinois Republican Party and were dubbed the "Fab Five." In 2003 he was appointed to the Senate Republican Leadership team in 2003 as Assistant Republican Leader.
Sy Scholfield quotes "Statehouse Insider," State Journal-Register, 7 August 2005, p. 15: "According to his official biography, Rauschenberger was born shortly after midnight on Aug. 30, 1956. This pleased his uncle to no end, since his uncle also was born on Aug 30. However, the birth certificate listed Rauschenberger's time of birth at 11:09 p.m. Aug. 29. The hospital apparently got standard time and Daylight Savings Time confused, something that doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. . . 'The argument continues to this day over which day really is his birthday.'"
