Source Notes

Mark McLean quotes the following on 12/24/2002,""I found a copy of the birth certificate of Bhumibal Aduldej

Songkla dated 5 December 2470 (1927) at Cambridge

hospital. Another document said that this hospital

changed its name to Mt Auburn in the year 2490 (1947).

Three hours after he was born my mother sent the

telegraph to her mother saying, "My son was born

today. Both of us are healthy. Could you please send

his name by telegraph to me"."

To be thorough, the entire post is repeated:

"Last night, my partner and I paid a visit to the

University that we live next to (we live in Bangkok)

and found a useful book written by King Rama IX's

older sister. She wrote the book to celebrate her

brother's 60th birthday. It was a limited edition

publication (a collectable). It is written in Thai, so

my partner leafed through it for a possible reference

to the King’s birth time, which he found (fortunately,

my partner is Thai and speaks quite good English). We

photocopied the relevant pages, so if you'd like to

receive scanned copies, I can email them to you (but

it is in Thai). We have translated the relevant

sections below.

"A few comments on the time given. Thai people don't

use AM/PM. Like many cultures, their time begins at

sunrise and sunset (at least in its colloquial use).

In a formal, written context, they use the 24 hour

clock. So, for example, in yesterday's newspaper (a

Thai newspaper), they used the 24 hour clock to report

the time in which the particular events occurred. So,

the fact that she puts a ‘0’ in front of the 8:45,

suggests that she is sticking to the usual Thai habit,

which makes it 8:45AM. She makes no reference as to

where this time has come from, but if her reference to

her mother’s good memory is anything to go by, it was

probably her mother.

"You might also be interested to know that the Thai

year is 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar.

"The final translated sentence, which reads, "Could you

please send his name by telegraph to me", is a

reference to the Thai custom of receiving a name from

a Buddhist monk (or more senior Buddhist priest,

depending on social status). When a new child is born,

most Thai people will ask a monk to name it.

"The following book was located at Srinakharinwirot

University, Bangkok, on Monday 23 December 2002.

"Title: "Junior Boss – Junior King"

Author: "Kan la ya ni wat ta na" (Elder sister of Rama

VIII and Rama IX)"

"It was not too long and a very important event

happened in our family. It was the birth of the third

child. As I have written (and as many others have

written), the second son of my mother was born on

Monday 5 December 2470 (1927) at 08:45 at Mt Auburn in

Cambridge. In July 2530 (1987), when I mentioned this

name in front of my mother, she said, "This hospital

used to be called Cambridge hospital". Since she has a

very good memory, I thought that she was not wrong and so I did some further research. She was right.

Now I can get on with the really interesting task of

profiling his life from an astrological perspective.

Hope you find this information useful.

Regards,

Mark
