Biography
American author, editor, journalist, essayist and compiler of anthologies. A prolific writer of non-fiction and fiction, he published over 40 works. The editor of "The Advocate" and a gay rights activist, he founded the first Gay & Lesbian center in the United States, and was president of the board of directors of "The AIDS Project". He settled in Portland, Maine in 1979. He died of complications of AIDS in April 1994.
