Biography
American writer, first published in July 1922. Emily Post became the authority on proper behavior, with a guidebook on manners that became a best-seller through 89 printings and ten editions, selling over a million copies.
The daughter of an architect, she grew up in a life of privilege with servants, summers in the country and old-money class. She married in June 1892; two sons. When her husband had a shocking affair, she had an equally shocking divorce and began to support herself with her writing. After six novels, she wrote her first book of etiquette, a thorough, practical and sincere guide to then and now.
Post died in her Manhattan apartment on 9/25/1960, a week before her 87th birthday.
