Biography
Italian ecclesiastic, elected Roman Catholic pope 10/29/1591. A Roman Catholic priest, he was educated as a lawyer and succeeded Pope Gregory XIV. He was the author of books on theology which were never published.
He died after being on the papal throne for two months, 12/30/1591 NS.
