Biography
French news figure, a courtesan and mistress of King Louis XV. Bourgeois but well educated by a patron of her mother's, she married the patron's nephew when she was 20. She and her husband attended the King's masked ball where she met Louis in 1745. Soon after he ensconced her at the palace as a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen, and discreetly, his fourth mistress. Within a year she was given her own estate as the Marquise de Pompadour where she held court for 19 years.
She died 4/15/1764 Versailles, France.
