Biography
American baseball pitcher. He started with the Dodgers in Brooklyn, moving with the team to Los Angeles, 1953-1966. In 1965, he dazzled the Yankees and pitched the Brooklyn Dodgers to their only World Series Championship. Podres was famous for his pin-point control and his fastball. Traded to Detroit in 1966, he moved to San Diego in 1969. During this period he underwent treatment for alcoholism. Podres finished his career with a record of 148 victories.
Podres went into alcohol rehab in San Diego, 1970, but did not stay with it; it was not until June 1983 that he began to celebrate sobriety.
