Biography

Plane crash of Turkish Airlines at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport. Turkish Airlines Flight TK 1951, with 127 passengers and seven crew members, crashed just short of the runway. A faulty altimeter appeared to be at least part of the cause. Although the plane broke into three pieces, it did not catch fire. Nine people were killed, six were critically injured and 80 sustained other injuries. The plane took off from Istanbul at a local time 6:22 AM according to the BBC.

PT quotes the BBC News: "The Boeing 737-800 aircraft came down at 1031 local time (0931 GMT), several hundred yards (metres) short of the runway. It had left Istanbul's Ataturk Airport at 0622 GMT." The UK 's Guardian newspaper gave the same times. NY Times gave "about 10:30" as the time of the crash. PT also notes that CNN gave a time of 10:40 AM local time in Amsterdam.
