Biography
Air France flight 447, with 228 people on board that took off from Rio de Janeiro headed for Paris. There were thunderstorms in the flight path and the plane, an Airbus 330-200 sent automatied signals of electrical problems at about 2:14 GMT according to Air France. The plane failed to make contact with air traffic control in Senegal as expected at 11:20 PM EDT (3:20 AM GMT the next day) and was reported missing.
Debris was first spotted on the morning of June 2, 2009 when Brazilian military search pilots spotted a seat cushion, a life jacket, metallic debris and signs of fuel in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 410 miles north of the island of Fernando de Noronha. As additional debris was located and the results analyzed, there was no hope that anyone survived the crash. Although results were not immediately conclusive, some authorities speculated that the aircraft encountered violent storms perhaps at too strong a speed and broke apart. After investigation into recovered bodies and plane parts, it was determined that the plane did not break up mid-air.
