Biography

German scientist, an theoretical physicist who dominated the area of quantum theory in his day, winning the Nobel Prize in 1918. With a lifelong love of music and science, Planck earned his doctorate in 1879 on the second law of thermodynamics, and was a professor of theoretical physics. It was on 10/19/1900, at the University of Berlin that he shattered the theories of the day on radiation and light by announcing that objects that give or absorb radiation do not do so in a steady stream but in little bundles which he called "quanta."

Died 10/04/1947, Gottingen, Germany.
