Biography
American basketball player and coach of the Celtics and Knicks and several colleges, who led the University of Kentucky to an NCAA championship in 1986.
As coach at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, he entered into a nighmarish situation in 2009. In April that year, he reported to the FBI that the wife of an aide at the University was trying to extort $10 million from Pitino. The situation became more heated when she later claimed that he had raped her back in August 2003. Police said they did not have enough evidence to prosecute him. Pitino counter-claimed that they had consensual sex and he had paid her fees for healthcare, reportedly to cover the cost of an abortion.
Pitino, a Catholic, has been married since 1976 and has five children.
