Biography
American minister, an ordained clergyman of the Episcopal Church in 1944, the Chaplain and Dean of the Department of Religion at Columbia University from 1949-1952. From there he became Dean of the Cathedral, 1952-1958 and Bishop of California 1958-1966.
During a visit to Israel, he died in the Judean wilderness two miles from the Dead Sea when he fell from a cliff, overcome by heat prostration, 9/02/1969.
