Biography
Argentine politician, the President of Argentina 1946-1955 when the Army and Navy opposition forced his resignation after a three-day revolution. He was a leading member of a cabal of fascist-minded officers, and after the military coup of 1943 solidified his political influence by nationalistic and reformist appeals to the urban working class. In his drive toward political power he was aided by his mistress and later, wife, Eva Duarte. Though he was criticized within and outside Argentina for his fascist sympathies, his political power increased so much that shortly after the war he was elected President of Argentina. It was the existence of such sympathies that made Argentina a place of refuge for many Germans after the collapse of the Reich.
Peron died 7/01/1974 Oliva, Argentina.
