Biography
French athlete, the winner of a Field and Track Gold Medal at the Atlanta Olympic in the 100 m., a new Olympics record, 7/30/1996. Two days later she won a gold medal in the 200 m., on 8/02/1996, duplicating Michael Johnson's feat. Eminent in her field, she was the World Champion in 400 m. in 1991 at Tokyo, and won a Gold Medal in the 400 m. in Barcelona, 1992. She was Double European Champion in 1994 in the 400 m. and the 4X400 m. She won World Championship in Helsinki in 1995.
Called "the gazelle of the Antilles," Perec was the only French athlete to win two gold medals in Olympic games and the first woman to win back-to-back gold in the Olympic 400 m., in 1992 and 1996.
