Biography

American actor, known for his role on the TV soap opera "Guiding Light." O’Leary has appeared in other television series, in films, on Off-Broadway and in national television commercials.

Michael O’Leary was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and raised in Diamond Bar, California. Although he majored in television production at California State University at Fullerton, he really wanted to act. He studied acting with Stella Adler and Larry Moss in Los Angeles, and with William Esper in New York. He first appeared on "Guiding Light" in 1983 as Rick Bauer. He remained on the show until 1991 and then returned again in 1995. O’Leary was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1987 and three times for the Soap Opera Digest award.

His credits include the recurring role of Dr. Stewart Farmingham on the popular ABC series "Doogie Howser, M.D." and Paul in "It's a Small World," part of an anthology series produced by David Lynch for HBO.

On stage in Los Angeles, he was featured in "Tea & Sympathy," "Auntie Mame," and "Scars," in which he co-starred with Julie Osborne and which he co-wrote. He began writing plays at the encouragement of acting instructor Moss. His play, "Rain," was produced at Los Angeles’ Tiffany Theater.

O’Leary and his wife, Joni, have two young daughters. He often plays golf with good friend and co-star Grant Aleksander.
