Biography
American astronaut, a member of the Discovery crew September 1988. He earned his B.S. in physics from Harvey Mudd College, his M.S. and Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Washington. In January 1978 he joined the astronaut program.
Nelson is married; two kids. He likes golf, swimming, running, reading and music.
