Biography
American boxer and actor. After his boxing career, he began acting, usually as a leading man in B pictures and war epics such as "Flying Tigers," accumulating credits in some 180 films. Neal destroyed his own film career by his uncontrollable temper when he beat actor Franchot Tone senseless on 9/14/1951 over his attentions toward Barbara Peyton. He married three times and during a quarrel with his third wife, he shot her to death 4/02/1965 at their home in Palm Springs, CA. During his trial, the jury accepted the crime as an accident and he served six years for involuntary manslaughter.
Neal died on 8/07/1972.
