Giant tsunami following an earthquake (magnitude 9.0) which occured on 26th December 2004, at 7:58-59, with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra. 3 tsunami waves (height: 25m-35m)) unfurled the streets of Meulaboh and Banda Aceh, the regional capital (at 8:13) and reached the coasts of Thailand: Phuket at 10:10, Koh Phi Phi at 10:25, and Khao Lak, and then Matara, Sri Lanka (at 14:00) and 11 other countries: India, Burma...

Among the victims: Richard Attenborough's daughter (Jane Holland, born in 1966)) and grand-daughter Lucy.

The town of Banda Aceh (Sumatra Island) was destroyed (100000 dead people)

Finally, about 220000 people died (170000 in Indonesia, 38000 in Sri Lanka, 4000 in Burma) . Elephants felt the vibrations under their feet, a warning for inhabitants who run to the top of the hills and were saved.
