Thailand earthquake strongly struck northern Myanmar early Thursday morning, 4:47 AM but there

were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The epicenter was 95 miles north of Myitkyina, a town in a remote area near the northern tip of Myanmar, the Southeast Asian country also known as Burma. The preliminary reading of the temblor was 6.5 Richter, according to Geophysicist Trina Vithayathil of the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, CO. The Northern Meteorological Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand, gave a reading of 6.35.
