Biography
Date of the Declaration of Independence, considered by some astrologers as the chart of the U.S. The time has been open to debate for a number of years. The various charts are entered and numbered, in order that students of the dilemma may consider the historic documentation available along with the astrological symbology.
Dates for rectification given with U.S. chart No.1.

R.A. Billington, B.J. Loewenborg and S.H. Bruckunier, "The United States," published by Rinehart and Co. Inc, New York and Toronto, 1947: the Introduction, p.15, "The symbolic first breath, or birth hour, of the nation occurred in the early morning hours of July 4, 1776. The writer has figured this to be just after 3:00 AM, however no documentary evidence exists to verify this early morning birth hour (or any other hour), so long a part of the tradition of the national chart."
Laurie Efrein rectified the time to 2:52 AM LMT.
American Astrology, January 1995 wrote, "The earliest reference we could find to the Gemini-rising chart (2:17 AM LMT), was that the chart was rectified by H.V. Herndon. We are quite certain that the story of Ben Franklin arranging an early morning signing is apocryphal then passed on as fact. It is untraceable to historic sources."
John Tabor writes, 12/2002:
"Anthony Louis has pointed out that in her book "Astrology for Everyone," Evangeline Adams used 3:03 AM rather than 2:13:32 AM. In 1976, Gar Osten
rectified this time to 3:01 AM LMT".
Our preferred revised presentation for the Gemini-rising chart would be:

In the immensely popular "Horoscopes of the US Cities and States", Dodson uses 2:13 AM and 7 Gemini 14. Jim Lewis in his Mundane Maps, and in his ACG
Certification Course, illustrates the 7 & 1/2 Gemini Ascendant. Dean, in "Recent Advances in Natal Astrology" references the 2:17 and 2:14 AM times, and Rudhyar´s pm chart, and no others. Jayj Jacobs states: "Don ´Moby Dick` The Astrologer Jacobs- my dad- and I, and all my subsequent partners have used 7 Gemini 35 for the US Ascendant on July 4, 1776. Our media measured accuracy rate of >95% validates that chart & Asc."
This broader revision would also clean up the minor mistake that Dodson used 2:13:32 and 7 Gem 14. In reality, 2:13 gives 7 Gem 14 and 2:13:32 would give
7 Gem 23.

Since I have been contributing to AstroDatabank for nearly three years now, let
me briefly tell you about myself and my approach to astrology. Yesterday was the
99th anniversary of man´s first powered flight. Orville and Wilbur were my
grandmother Nellie Wright´s cousins. Neither had children, so I and my brother and
sister are among their closest living relatives. I think of myself as a spiritual heir of the
Wright brothers, and my Gemini Uranus relates to a "two-pilot karma". My Mars is
in the same degree of Scorpio as Orville´s Mars, which make us both pioneers of
the unknown.
I was born in Des Moines, Iowa on 18Oct1944(I would prefer to omit the exact
time). I was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa, and received an
M.A. in Latin American History from the University of Florida. I then spent two years
here in Brazil with the Peace Corps. Four volunteers in our group were still subject
to the draft, and three of us became Naval officers, while the other spent three years
in the Danbury penitentiary. I had the highest IQ(158) of the 250 Marine officers in
my company at Quantico. After finishing service, I returned to Brazil where I got
married and have lived the rest of my adult life.
I approach astrology as a "practical mechanic", just like the Wright Brothers
approached aviation. Astrology must work. It must get off the ground and fly. Being
an "illustrious unknown" doesn´t bother me, and lets me research in relative peace.
I rectified the map of Brazil(7Sep1822, 16:00) over ten years ago, but it has gotten
little public recognition. I have yet to set up my own website. Ideally, I would like to
have one, but I feel it might take time away from research. Among other projects,
I have developed what I consider the definitive charts for France and Spain. These are
long stories in thei own right. The Spanish chart, for example, practically fell into my
lap from a history book in a Buenos Aires bookshop.
The key to the US chart, in my opinion, is that it is a 3:00 AM Masonic electional
chart. I will continue to slog on with mere factual evidence, but also hope to make an
important theoretical contribution by the time of the Wright Brothers Centennial by
showing that "oddball times don´t fall out of the ether" as so many seem to think.
Just a brief clue- why have English astrologers used exact 12:00 Noon for the
Westminster national chart for centuries?
One question on which you might give me an opinion is what the Gemini-rising
chart should be named when it is finally accepted. I have so far referred to my work
as a "rectified Evangeline Adams chart". AstroDatabank´s Astrologers´ Memorial
mentions Gar Osten, who rectified her chart to 3:01 AM in the one book he ever
published. Gar was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, and left all his papers to the
Unversity of Iowa. My cousin was a minister in Marshalltown, and I also had a girl
friend from there who studied History with me at the Universities of Iowa and Florida.
The Wright Brothers grew up in Cedar Rapids, where my Dad was born and one of
my aunts spent her life. Perhaps we could call it the "Iowa rectification of the
Evangeline Adams chart". What do you think? I am sending a copy of this E-mail
to Tony Louis, who deserves much credit for helping to clarify this whole issue, and
may have some opinion to add. Responsibility for revising the "front page" is of
course only yours, but I hope these comments can help.
