Biography
American politician, mayor of Worcester, MA, he won the Democratic Primary on September 19, 2006 for Lt. Governor of Massachusetts and was elected in November that year, along with running mate, Governor Deval Patrick.
A native of Worcester, MA, he is the oldest of five children born to a teacher and a nurse. After college and law school, he worked in the public arena as an advocate for the homeless and on the board of city services and as a lawyer. Murray was elected to the city council in 1997. In 2001 he was elected Mayor for the first of three terms. A popular leader and a staunchDemocrat he led many city revitalization efforts.
Murray is married to Tammy, an ocupational therapist, and they have two daughters.
