Biography

American businessman who helped Boeing reinvent itself and became CEO of Ford Motor Company in 2006. He grew up in Kansas, landed a job at Boeing as a young junior engineer in 1969, ascended through the ranks, taking over its commercial aircraft division in 1998 and ultimately becoming company president. He is credited with radically increasing orders and operating margins.


Mulally graduated with a bachelor of science in 1967 and a master's in science in 1969 from the University of Kansas, with a concentration on aeronautical and astronautical engineering. He earned a master's in business from the Sloan School of Management at MIT in 1982. An athlete, he played on the semi-pro tennis circuit and loves golf as well. He has a license to fly small planes. As a manager he is considered enthusiastic but sometimes temperamental. He and his wife have three sons and two daughters.
