Biography
American president shot. President McKinley, while holding a reception in the Temple of Music at the Pan American Exposition this afternoon was shot twice and wounded at 4:00 o'clock by Leon Czologosz, a Polish anarchist who lives in Cleveland.
One bullet struck the President on the upper portion of the breast bone, glancing and not penetrating; the second bullet penetrated the abdomen five inches below the left nipple and one and one half inches to the left of the median line. The abdomen was opened through the line of the bullet wound. It was found the bullet had penetrated the stomach.
(Later news: President McKinley died a week later, 9/14/1901. Leon Czologosz, born in 1973 in Detroit Michigan, was electrocuted 10/29/1901 at Auburn, New York.)
