Biography
American football coach, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and NFL head coach since 1986. Mora was previously with USFL. He played tight end and defensive end in college and went into coaching shortly after. With the longest tenure of any head coach in the NFL, Mora submitted his resignation on the morning of 10/21/1996 in New Orleans. With the Saints' season off to a dismal start, on the prior day he had let loose with a profanity-laced tirade at the post game press conference following an ugly loss to Carolina (10/20/1996).
In his ten years with the N.O. Saints, he led them to the Playoffs four times, losing in the first round each time (1987, '90, '91 and '92). He won two NJC Western Division Titles (December 1988 and 1991). The team took a decided downturn in 1993 and Mora had not been able to revive them.
Named USFL Coach of the Year 1984 and named NFL Coach of the Year in 1987, both by The Sporting News.
