Biography
American author of a book that took her ten years to write and became one of the best-selling novels of all time, "Gone With The Wind." The film version had the largest audience of any movie ever made. David O. Selznick paid her $50,000 for the movie right, closing the deal on 7/06/1936, the week that the book was published. It won a Pulitzer Prize and was eventually printed in more than 100 languages.
Mitchell was a tomboy and a flapper, who was exceptionally accident-prone. As a young girl, she was date-raped by a man vaguely identified as "Brett." She married an athlete who drank, divorced and married their best man. Her collection of erotic literature was excellent, and she was known for her "salty" language. She smoked and drank copiously, and was a chronic insomniac.
She was killed by being run over by a car on 8/16/1949, shortly before noon, Atlanta, GA.
