Biography

French-American artist, recognized as one of the finest painters of her generation from the time of an exhibition in May 1951. An abstract expressionist, she often confounds critics searching for the meaning of her paintings. Mitchell was educated in Paris and New York, moving to France in 1959. She died on October 30, 1992 in Paris, age 67.
