Biography

American dentist who went from being an amateur golfer to being a professional golfer in 1957. As an amateur golfer, he was the holder of both the Memphis and Tennessee amateur championships. In 1945, Middlecoff was the first amateur to win both the North and South Open. In 1949 and 1956, the same year that he won the Vardon Trophy, he won the U.S. Open. In 1955, Middlecoff won the Masters and had another great year.
