Biography

American model, socialite and actress, the daughter of millionaire Edward F. Hutton and socialite Marjorie Meriweather Post. Her films included "The Sundowners," 1959, "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," 1963 and "The Pleasure Seekers" in 1964.

Merrill married for the third time in November 1989. Her first husband was a Marine, Stanley Rumbaugh, then actor Cliff Robertson, and she had a total of four kids. She first met actor Ted Hartley more than 30 years before they began to date in 1986 and fell in love.

Together with a group of investors, Merrill and Hartley bought the struggling RKO Pictures the year of their marriage. They reaped more than $50 million with their production, "Mighty Joe Young," released December 1998.
