Biography

American writer, editor and satirist who was the author of "American Language," in four volumes, 1919-1948. As well as a premier writer of essays and social commentary, he served as a co-editor of a magazine in 1924. He worked as a reporter from 1899 and an editorial writer, columnist and reporter to 1948.

Mencken married Sarah Powell Haardt in 1930 and she died in 1935. He died on 1/29/1956, Baltimore, MD.
