Indian saint, born in poverty. Asking for no money, she has a following of over 40,000 people worldwide who visit her in Germany where she silently touches each person. She is considered an embodiment of the divine mother.
She had her first spiritual experience at age 6 and came to the attention and care of an uncle who was convinced of her holiness. He took her to Germany where in 1982 she married. Although she travels internationally to give audiences to spiritual seekers, she does not lecture. She has opened a school in India for small children.

David Hamblin quotes "In Search of the Divine Mother, the Mystery of Mother Meera" by Martin Goodman (Harper San Francisco, 1998), p. 43 "The father recalls that the birth took place at six o'clock in the morning though some remember it being four hours earlier." Chandepalle is in Andhra Pradesh state and is not in the atlas so the coordinates for the state capital Hyderabad are used here.
