Biography

Scottish-born father, a physician who, with his physician wife Kate, was vacationing in Portugal when their daughter, Madeleine McCann, went missing on May 3, 2007. The disappearance was much covered in the news and the parents were suspects for a while. While there have been several suspects, including Kate McCann, to date (late 2008), the authorities have not been able to hold or convict anyone in the disappearance and possible death of the child.

Madeleine was born on May 12, 2003 in Leicester, England--no time known. She was last seen on May 3, 2007 at about 8:30 PM local time in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region. The couple told Portuguese police that they had left their three children, Madeleine and their younger twins, in the ground-floor apartment they had rented while they were at a nearby restaurant. When they returned, Madeleine had gone missing.

(PT notes that she has not seen a date for Kate McCann's birthday though one unknown researcher reported that she was born in first quarter of 1968 according to an Ancestry.com.uk search s/he conducted. They married in December 1998 in Liverpool according to the same website. Someone alleged that she was born Kate Healy in Liverpool, and is the daughter of Susan and Brian Healy. PT notes that none of this information has been verified as far as she knows; however one news report said that Kate had used IVF to become pregnant and had Madeleine five years after her marriage so 1998 seems right; news reports at the time of the child's disappearance gave Kate's age as 39).
