Biography
French mountain climber, the only woman Alpinist to reach the highest peaks without the use of oxygen. She died in Nepal when she was trying to climb the Dhaulagiri, a summit of more than 8,000 meters. She died in May 1998, killed by an avalanche while she was sleeping in her tent on the slopes of .Mt. Dhaulagiri in Nepal. Although her body was not found for several days, May 16 was given as the date in one news report.
