Biography
Indian yogi and leader of the School of Transcendental Meditation, internationally known for supplicants who included at one time the Beatles George Harrison and John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Mike Love of the Beach Boys and Mia Farrow (who reported disillusionment when she left). Many of the hip generation took up TM to develop their capacity for relaxation and concentration.
The Maharishi, now in his 80s (2001) lives in the Netherlands but continues to travel to the US and India. About five million followers around the world murmur mantras and claim that TM sessions twice daily relieve stress and improve their health.
