Biography
American businessman, Chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley since June 30, 2005.
The youngest of six boys, his father owned a grocery store and his mother cooked for sick people in the community. He earned a bachelor's in history from Duke University, and while in college, worked at a small brokerage house. He joined Morgan Stanley as a bond salesman in 1972 and became its President in 1993. In 2001 he left the company to run Credit Suisse First Boston and then became co-CEO of the Credit Suisse Group. He was urged to come back to an ailing Morgan Stanley to turn it around; he took over as CEO in 2005.
