Biography
Scottish-British songwriting team member with Benny Gallagher, starting their professional careers in 1964. The duo moved to London and became in-house composers for Apple Label. From April 1970, they entered a successful partnership with McGuinness Flint before embarking on individual careers. In 1976 they achieved two top-ten hits in April and June. After separating in 1980, Lyle continued writing with noted hits for Tina Turner and Jim Diamond. On 2/26/1985, he won the Song of the Year Grammy Award for the number one hit, "What's Love Got to Do With It?"
