Biography
Scottish writer, the author of several books, including "People in a Landscape - The New Highlanders." From 1988 until 1994, Linklater worked as editor of The Scotsman newspaper. He left to pursue a freelance writing career that included regular appearances as a columnist for the London Times. He is Chairman of the Scottish Arts Council and a believer that "the arts could, and should, be used as a catalyst for change and to create real benefits for the people of Scotland."
He has a strong interest in reforming his country’s health care system, and in particular, fueled by his personal experiences throughout his son’s illness, he advocates sweeping changes in the field of mental health. His son, while still in his teens, was diagnosed as having manic depression, or what is more properly termed as bipolar affective disorder.
