Biography
American journalist, sister of Lisa Ling. While on assignment in China near the North Korean border for Al Gore's Current TV media company, Ling and a colleague Euna Lee were seized by North Korean soldiers on March 17, 2009. Accused of illegally entering North Korea, they were put on trial in a closed session that began on June 4, 2009.. On June 8, 2009 Ling and Lee were sentenced by the North Korean government to 12 years of hard labor. Former President secured their pardon and release in early August 2009. The two women, accompanied by Clinton and other officials on a private plane, were reunited with their their families back in the US on August 5, 2009.
