Biography
Chinese-American businesswoman. Taking over her husband's industrial building corporation from his death in 1960, she built 16 commercial buildings in 15 years and was the first female contractor awarded government contracts in her state. She was also the first foreign-born American to gain honors from D.A.R. She served as City Commissioner in 1984 and was the first woman Commissioner of Building and Safety.
Li earned a B.A. from the University of Shanghai and moved to the U.S. to earn a Masters degree from USC. From her ten years of marriage, she had two daughters, one of whom became a doctor and the other, a lawyer.
