Biography

French politician with an unparalleled ministerial career, started in 1894. He was twice minister of Public Instruction, twice minister of the Interior, minister of the Colonies, President of the Council of Ministers and minister of Foreign affairs. It is mainly during his 11 terms as minister of the Admiralty, where he was advised by his godson, future Admiral Darlan, that he showed his full capacity. So striking was his performance that he became known as the Colbert of the Third Republic."
