Biography

French scientist and astronomer. A student of celestial mechanics from 1837, he predicted the position of Neptune, which was discovered in 1846 within one degree of the position he gave. Elected to the Academie des Sciences, 1846, he held the chair of Astronomy at the University of Paris and was also the Director of the Paris Observatory in 1854.

Died 9/23/1877 Paris, France.
