Biography

Belgium royalty, the King of Belgium in 1934 after the death of his father, King Albert. In the '40s he lost his popularity due to surrendering to the Germans and he remained a prisoner in Belgium. When he abdicated after the war, in 1951, his eldest son Baudouin took over the throne.

He married Astrid in a civil service 11/04/1926 and a religious service 11/10/1926, and was widowed with her death in an auto accident 8/29/1935. He was remarried, to Liliane in a religious service 9/11/1941 and a civil service 12/06/1941.

King Leopold died 9/25/1983 after coronary bypass surgery, Brussels, Belgium.
