Biography
Czech-born tennis champion on the professional circuit beginning in 1979. He won the singles championships in the Australian Open in 1983 and the French Open in 1984. In 1985 he won the US Open and for three years (1985-1987 inclusive) he was ranked number 1 in the world.
With 94 singles championships to his name, Lendl retired from competitive tennis in 1994 but not before becoming a US citizen in 1992. In 2001 he was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.
