Biography
American scientist; shared the Nobel Prize for physics on 11/02/1955 with Dr. P. Kusch (born 1/26/1911) for work in precision atomic measurements and discoveries regarding the hyper-fine structure of the hydrogen spectrum.
Lamb earned his Ph.D. in physics in 1938 and taught on the faculty of Columbia 1938-52. He was made a full professor in 1948. From 1951-56, he taught at Stanford, moving to Oxford 1956-62. When he returned to the U.S. in 1962, he taught at Yale until 1974 when he became professor of physics and optical sciences at the University of Arizona.
Lamb married on 6/05/1939.
