Biography
German mathematician and educator who did important work in geometry and raised the math status of group theory. He held three chairs before going to Gottingen in 1886 for the remainder of his career. He encouraged post graduate training of women as well as men. Klein's major contribution to math was his inaugural lecture at Erlangen, 1872; later at Gottengen his role was mainly as an educator.
