Biography

American military, a Vice Admiral in the US Navy. He was the Commander of the US Naval forces during the Vietnam War. He retired from active duty in 1974.

A 1941 graduate of Yale University, he served in the Pacific during WWII. He went on earn his master's degree in nuclear physics from MIT in 1951. Among the military awards he was given are three three Distinguished Service Medals and a Bronze Star. He and his first wife had three children. The marriage ended in divorce and he married again in 1986.

He died on June 13, 2008 in Pasadena, CA of chronic pulmonary obstruction and pneumonia.
