Kim Jong Il
|born on||16 February 1941|
|Place||V'atskoje, Russian Federation, 48n44, 135e43|
|Timezone||h11e (is war time)|
Korean communist national leader, the successor of his father, Kim Il Sung, who had ruled North Korea with an iron hand for 46 years. When his dad died on 7/08/1994 at age 82, there was a mourning period of several years before Kim Jong II emerged to take control. He was called the "Dear Leader" though rumored to be a sybaritic villain, a 52-year-old womanizer who has a fresh "joy team" of schoolgirls annually. Far worse, he is accused of terrorist attacks such as the 1987 bombing of a Korean air flight that killed 115.
Jong Il reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack and died on December 17, 2011 while riding on a train in North Korea. State news reports said that he had suffered from cardiovascular problems for some time.

LMR quotes Los Angeles Times, which stated specifically that the date was accurate; time unknown (1942 seen elsewhere). CNN reports that Mount Paektu is considered sacred and that more objective researchers place his birth in the Far Eastern region of the Soviet Union to which his father had fled after the Japanese put a price on his head for guerilla activities. CNN also gives 1942 as the year of his birth as does his "official biography" quoted by Answers.com. In addition, PT notes in May 2005 that the coordinates given are for Pyongyang. In fact, Mt. Paektu seems to be nearer to these coordinates: 41N48; 128E12, (for a town named Paektusanmiryong-nodongjagu, near the mountain). His obituary in the New York times cast more doubt over the accuracy of the date shown. The article says that he "is believed to have been born in Siberia in 1941…but in North Korea's official accounts, he was born in 1942, in a cabin, Abe Lincoln-like…on Mt. Paektu.".
